Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 3, 2026

Plain-language summary (not a substitute for the policy below): We collect the account and property information you give us, plus basic billing and sign-in details needed to run the Service. We don't sell your data. Your portfolio data is stored per-account and isn't visible to other users. We use Google (for sign-in), Stripe (for billing), and Netlify/Neon (for hosting and our database) to operate the Service.

1Introduction

This Privacy Policy describes how The Ledger ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use our website and application at 9-5-exit.com (the "Service"). It should be read alongside our Terms of Service. By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information as described here.

2Information We Collect

We collect the following categories of information:

CategoryWhat it includes
Account informationEmail address, name, and password (stored as a bcrypt hash — we never store your password in plain text). If you sign in with Google, we receive your Google account ID and associated profile information instead.
Portfolio dataThe rental-property information you enter yourself — property names, purchase prices, market values, mortgage details, rents, expenses, and the financial assumptions you configure. This is the data you own and control, as described in our Terms.
Billing informationYour subscription plan and status. Payment card details are collected and processed directly by Stripe, our payment processor — we do not receive or store your full card number.
Support requestsThe subject and message content of any support request you submit, along with its status.
Usage and technical dataStandard technical information generated by using a web application, such as session tokens (used to keep you signed in) and timestamps of account activity.

3How We Use Your Information

We use the information above only to operate and provide the Service, specifically to:

  • create and authenticate your account, including via Google Sign-In;
  • store and display your portfolio data back to you, and run the calculations you request;
  • process subscription payments and manage your plan through Stripe;
  • enforce the property limits associated with your subscription tier;
  • respond to support requests you submit; and
  • maintain the security and proper functioning of the Service.

We do not use your portfolio data for advertising, and we do not sell your information to third parties.

4Google User Data

If you choose to sign in with Google, we request only the basic profile scopes needed to create and authenticate your account (your name, email address, and Google account identifier). We do not request access to your Gmail, Drive, Calendar, or any other Google service, and we do not use Google user data for any purpose other than sign-in and account identification.

5How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only with the service providers necessary to operate the Service:

  • Stripe — to process subscription payments and manage billing. Stripe receives your payment details directly; we receive only your subscription status and plan.
  • Google — to authenticate you if you use Google Sign-In.
  • Netlify and Neon (PostgreSQL) — our hosting and database providers, who store the application's data on our behalf as part of operating the Service.

Each account's portfolio data is isolated in our database and is not visible to other users. We may also disclose information if required to do so by law, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of the Service, our users, or others.

6Data Retention

We retain your account and portfolio data for as long as your account remains active, so that the Service can continue to work as expected. If you cancel your subscription, your account data is retained in case you choose to return; if you would like your account and data deleted, contact us using the details in Section 9.

7Data Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your information, including hashing passwords, using industry-standard hosting infrastructure, and isolating each account's data. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8Your Choices

You can review and update your portfolio data at any time within the app. You can export your data using the Service's built-in export function, as described in our Terms. To request deletion of your account or data, or to ask any question about this policy, contact us as described below.

10Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time; when we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above. Material changes will be communicated through the Service or by email. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
